The Daily Bean: 175 Easy and Creative Bean Recipes for Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner....And, Yes, Dessert
Average Reviews:

This cookbook is not only full of fabulous bean recipes, it is a fun read as well! I love Suzanne's suggestions, helpful hints, and the extras about friends and family who lovingly inspired her along the way.
As a bean LOVER, I am delighted by all the extremely creative recipes - and I'm anxious to try out the desserts! One of my favorite things about this cookbook is the set-up. Instead of the traditional cookbook method of chapters grouped into "appetizers", "entrees", "desserts", etc. - each chapter in this book is dedicated to ONE bean variety. So for example, with black beans - you will find all the appetizers, entrees, desserts, etc. IN the black bean chapter! I thought this was great - no digging through the "desserts" chapter to find where the black bean desserts are!
I highly recommend this cookbook - there is literally something for everyone. It makes healthy eating FUN - thank you Suzanne!

I received this cookbook as a gift. This is the first cookbook that I've found in which the recipes are simple and quick enough to make after work without being a burden and the food is always delicious. I've probably made 30 of the dishes now and they have all been hits with my family. This is my favorite cookbook out of the 100 or so I have. I use it everyday.

The No-Salt, Lowest-Sodium Cookbook Review

The No-Salt, Lowest-Sodium Cookbook
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A great cookbook for anyone!!! Yes, I have high blood pressure & have been diagnosed as 'salt sensitive,' and my husband has had open heart surgery, so we have to be careful, but I have lost 50 pounds without giving up pizza, sticky buns, and chocolate brownies!!! This cookbook enabled me to change my lifestyle without having to redesign my cooking. The recipes in here are easy to make, taste great, and keep you in the mainstream of the food chain even though you are dealing with serious health issues. Don recommends buying a bread machine - who knew store- bought bread had so much sodium!! Anyway, I bought a bread machine , and recipes for the pitas, the breads, the pizza dough - all superb! So many of the heart healthy books do not understand that is not just the fat...many of us have to watch the salt as well. This cookbook guarantees that we do not have to give up the flavor and the fun of food.

The Eat-Clean Diet Cookbook: Great-Tasting Recipes That Keep You Lean Review

The Eat-Clean Diet Cookbook: Great-Tasting Recipes That Keep You Lean
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Having lost a ton of weight, and apparently good at keeping it off, Tosca Reno decided to write this book after her bestselling The Eat-Clean Diet: Fast Fat-Loss that lasts Forever!. I guess it was so popular that there was a demand for Eat Clean Recipes. After looking at the book, I can see why.
First off, if you're looking for any detailed explanations of the Eat Clean diet, you won't find it here- check out her other book instead, The Eat-Clean Diet: Fast Fat-Loss that lasts Forever!. But just to give you a very brief overview, it's a nutritional plan that maximizes your intake of protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants by incorporating "whole foods" from every group. Some of the Clean Eating Principles include things such as: eat 5-6 small meals a day, eat every 2-3 hrs., avoid saturated fats, and stick to proper portion sizes. As you can see, it's healthy and sensible.
Anyway, the book is just loaded with recipes. A little bit about the layout. Major recipe sections include breakfast, soup, grains, sauces, one-dish and easy meals, proteins, vegetables, pasta, sweets and breads, and festive occasions. Most notable, perhaps, is that each recipe tells you the nutritional breakdown (total calories, fat calories, protein, carbs, fiber, sugars, fat, and sodium). Also included is the approximate preparation AND cook time. Nice!
So needless to say, I was well-pleased with the book. It's practical and healthy. A must-have if you're an Eat Clean fan or if you're just looking for a few healthy recipes. Readers trying to make healthy lifestyle changes might also be interested in The Sixty-Second Motivator.

Perfect Recipes for Having People Over Review

Perfect Recipes for Having People Over
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Anderson's brief introduction emphasizes organization and planning, and the book's design is elegant - lots of full-page color pictures of finished dishes - and practical, with a tip guide at the bottom of each recipe.
She starts with the main course, grouped by occasion, from kitchen gatherings to barbecues, sit-down dinners and breakfast. "All the Rest" follows, from appetizers through dessert, including drinks and breads.
Anderson often offers a master recipe, which can be transformed with simple additions - quesadillas, for instance, or shish kebabs, which both come with a page of variations in spices and main ingredients. This is particularly true for the soups, like the Creamy Vegetable, which comes with 10 separate recipes and ideas for "hundreds" of variations.
Each recipe concludes with suggestions for when to serve and what to serve it with, variations, shortcuts, advance preparations and, my personal favorite, ideas for the leftovers.
For the dining room there's an Easy Baked Risotto which does away with much of the stirring and Beef Tenderloin with cracked pepper and a red wine pan sauce; more casual meals feature Oven-Barbecued Pork for sandwiches or carnitas and Lasagna made with both white and red sauce and no-boil noodles. Breakfast might be a savory baked strata, assembled the night before.
Side dishes are bright and imaginative, like Smoked Salmon and Watercress Salad with Red Onion-Caper Vinaigrette or Orange-Glazed Asparagus; desserts are simple and many are homey, like the Tender Yellow Cake and Five Variations. Drinks come by the pitcher.
There's nothing difficult here and there's plenty of range to suit every taste and every occasion. Anderson's fans ("The Perfect Recipe," "How to Cook Without a Book") will snap it up and anyone who entertains should find it a useful pleasure.
- Portsmouth Herald

The Weeknight Survival Cookbook: How to Make Healthy Meals in 10 Minutes Review

The Weeknight Survival Cookbook: How to Make Healthy Meals in 10 Minutes
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am very pleased with this book: it is simple, the recipes can easily be modified, and best of all: there are shopping lists. I find that a large part of my meal executing woes are caused by not having time to plan and make lists. The foods are very middle of the road: not too gourmet, not too many processed foods. A couple meals a week are vegetarian, but carb watchers can add a fish fillet or chicken or something to the meal easily. Lots of veggies are included too. After purchasing a similar book that ended up suggesting I make "duck tacos" this book is a winner. Tip: take it to an office supply store and have the cover laminated and have it spiral-bound for easy use.

OMG I love this book - Since I gave birth to twins last year I have been trying to take off the last 10 pounds (who isn't?) and find it so hard as I love to snack and I have a sweet tooth. I just got my copy of Sally's 100 Calorie Snack Cookbook and am enjoying snacks and MEALS and don't feel guilty! and I might add that my husband is loving my cooking all over again and he doesn't even notice the "low cal" cooking. Of course he's already lost 2 pounds! The Cilantro Gazpacho is a great lunch for our warming weather and who can resist the spiced popcorn with a movie? And ah....who can resist the chocolate truffles? Get this book and test it out for yourself. You won't be sorry and you'll eat like a king and look like a queen!

I recently ordered this book from Amazon.com and I have not been disappointed. From the Flylady website I knew that Leanne Ely has some of the most delicious recipes. My family has raved over most of the recipes that I received from Leanne through Flylady. The same holds true for the recipes that are in SAVING DINNER. The food I have prepared using this cookbook has been popular with my family. I love having the menus and shopping lists prepared for me. It saves me about thirty to forty minutes each week in meal planning preparation. I should add that these recipes take thirty minutes or less to prepare.

1,000 Vegetarian Recipes Review

1,000 Vegetarian Recipes
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My mother in-law bought me this book shortly after I married her son. I think she was a little worried that he wouldn't eat well because he married a vegetarian. Our first year of marriage I used only this cookbook and a few recipes my mom had given me. I can't tell you how exciting it was to sit down, read through a section of the book, write a grocery list for the items I would need, write out a dinner menu for the whole week and then call my friends to tell them what I was fixing on each night and ask them what sounded good to them so they could join us for dinner. I did this for several months until my evenings were filled with other activities. (Eating was definitely an activity when it came to using this book.) I have enjoyed every recipe I have used from this book. And they're so easy!! Here are a few of my recommendations (I don't have page numbers in front of me): The Barbecue Red Beans, Corn and Rice; Manicotti; Fajitas; Falafel; Hummus; Black Bean Hummus; and so many more. My only problem with some of the recipes is that I'm not a big salt eater and so I changed a few of the measurements on some recipes. And also, because she uses a lot of cheese (which is my favorite food) I gained a lot of weight that year. I do love the fact that she doesn't suggest using lowfat or non-fat foods to make the recipes but use caution. This is a "must have" cookbook if you love eating really good food!!

Not just for vegetarians, there's never been a better time for this award-winning book! Carol Gelles, one of the best-known authorities on the subject, offers hundreds of appetizers, entrees, soups, salads, and more, proving that vegetarian cuisine is anything but boring. The flavor combinations are limitless, drawing on the ingredients and spices from every international cuisine. Discussions of vegetables, grains, beans, and soyfoods are interspersed throughout the recipes, making the book easy enough for beginners to follow. And every recipe is coded as lacto-vegetarian (some dairy products), ovo-vegetarian (some egg products), or vegan (made without dairy or meat products).

Main-Course Salads (Main-Course Series) Review

Main-Course Salads (Main-Course Series)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This salad book by Ray Overton lived up to my every expectation. I have Ray's Main-Course Soups and am thrilled to know this is now a series. Can't wait to get Main-Course Sandwiches.
The recipes in the salad book are so creative and different. Some of our favorites are the Fiery Thai Beef Salad, Pecan Crusted Goat Cheese Salad, and the Southwestern (Layered) Black Bean Salad. The dressings are easy and can be made ahead (they're even better when allowed to sit in the fridge overnight). Can't wait to try more!
I met Ray at a demo/signing in NYC last month. He is a delight. Why haven't we seen him on the TV Food Network? He'd give Emeril some sleepless nights worrying about this creative guy taking over his Live show. With the books he's written and his vast culinary knowledge, humor, style, and personality, it's time for a change!

This book has been a life saver for me. I recently had a physical and found out that my blood sugar was high. I've been over weight for most of my life but this was a wake up call for me. I searched the internet for healthy eating plans and thankfully found this book. It includes four weeks of menu plans and the corresponding grocery lists which make eating right much easier than it has ever been. I've always known what I'm supposed to eat (whole grains, lean meats, fruit/vegetables) but the practical application has been beyond me. My two boys are following this plan with me and we absolutely love it. The best news? We're only on week three and I've already lost six pounds!! Betty Crocker's Living with Cancer Cookbook: Easy Recipes and Tips through Treatment and Beyond Review

Betty Crocker's Living with Cancer Cookbook: Easy Recipes and Tips through Treatment and Beyond
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Having lived with cancer for 8 years and having had over one hundred treatments so far, I am thrilled to find a book that really talks to patients from patients who have lived through the same thing I am going through. This book shares real world recipes that are easy to eat and easy to make. In addition, the recipes have been eaten by patients who have the same problems I have had namely nausea, constipation, mouth sores, diarrhea and special diets such as neutropenia and low residue. The lists of recipes on pages 48 & 49 help me and family members chose food that I can eat AND that will benefit me for the side effects I am going through. This is incredibly encouraging!!! I especially appreciate the Q & A section from Dr. Ghosh and the diet plans for the special diets in the back of the book. Another great feature that I love are the special tips pages such as Snacks (p109), Humor and Healing (p149), Food during Treatments (p207), and Great Gifts (p223). I think this book would be the best gift to give to a cancer patient going through treatment. The best part of this book are the real quotes from real patients on nearly every recipe in the book. This book is a both a manual for Living with Cancer AND an excellent cookbook with tried and true recipes. Thanks Betty Crocker!!!

Zone Meals in Seconds : 150 Fast and Delicious Recipes for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Few books prompt me to want to TELL THE WORLD because it may make a big difference in the quality of life of anyone who reads it. This is the first time that I have tried the Zone diet and fish oil supplements so it was all news to me and makes sense. I don't usually buy recipe books but this is more of a guide to balanced eating using raw foods, canned/frozen food, and even restaurant visits. The authors seem to realize that I don't have the time or talent to deal with exotic food preparation. Rather than a long list of food to avoid, this book explains which foods are good, better, and best along with balanced quantities.
Don't underestimate the health effects of the right food if you are currently in pain or taking any medications this book could change your life! A high cholesterol report and watching Morgan Spurlock's movie, Super Size Me, prompted me to pursue some changes in my diet. In the month since entering the Zone I have discontinued Sudafed use (after years on it) and my husband is off of glucosamine and pain free. Plus, we are not hungry, have energy, and sleep better than before. This book ended the confusion I felt about what to eat. I found it very helpful.

Biggest Loser Family Cookbook: Budget-Friendly Meals Your Whole Family Will Love Review

Biggest Loser Family Cookbook: Budget-Friendly Meals Your Whole Family Will Love
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
There are some good substitution ideas in here, but especially in the dessert section there was 'way too much emphasis on fake food (fat-free and sugar-free pudding, for example), and there's already enough of that on the show.
Another big problem with this book is that the organization is poor. Several recipes called for another recipe to be made first (e.g. meatloaf sandwich made with leftover meatloaf), but they should have been listed alongside the original recipe, instead of being in separate sections.
Check out of the library first, before buying. If you already use sugar substitutes and sugar-free/fat-free convenience foods in your cooking, this book may have some new ideas. If you're looking for healthier recipes made with regular food that doesn't have additives, there are only a few recipes in this book that fit the bill.

The Perfect Recipe for Losing Weight and Eating Great Review

The Perfect Recipe for Losing Weight and Eating Great
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
**Edited, 3 years after original review. I am still cooking from this cookbook several times weekly. And I am always finding new recipes to try. Here are some of my faves: crustless quiche, creamy tomato soup, biscotti, all the roasted veggies, granola, creamy parmesean salad dressing. If you are looking for fabulous, everyday, healthy recipes, this is the cookbook for you!***
I have been a huge fan of Pam Anderson's other "Perfect" cookbooks. Especially "Perfect Recipes for Having People Over," and "How to Cook Without a Book." She is just a great chef and writer. Her insight is always invaluable. However, it is not really practical for me (or anyone) to eat most of these foods on a daily basis because many of them are high in fat and calories.
In her new book, Pam shows you how you can eat really good food, but cook recipes that are not too caloric or fat laden. The recipes are really do-able for everyday cooking and eating, even if you have a busy schedule. And, in typical Pam fashion, she gives variations on almost every recipe to suit your tastebuds and the ingredients you have on hand. A calorie count is also given for every recipe.
Just as valuable as the recipes, is the information Pam gives you about how she lost almost 50 pounds. Her biggest tip is that she changed her lifestyle. She added exercise and created kind of a meal plan and guidelines that she feels (and I feel) are liveable. She has a nice breakfast, a nice lunch, teatime with a sweet, a before dinner "nibble" with a glass of wine and a reasonable dinner. And the truth is, if you eat like this day in-day out, you will slowly lose weight (or stay the same). What makes most of us gain weight is the over-indulgent stuff, eating too much on a daily basis, and constant yo-yo dieting.
I am not doing her writing justice, please get it and read it. I am so excited to implement her strategies and recipes in to my life. I love to cook, and I love to eat, but I hate being fat!
