The Hamptons Diet Cookbook: Enjoying the Hamptons Lifestyle Wherever You Live Review

The Hamptons Diet Cookbook: Enjoying the Hamptons Lifestyle Wherever You Live
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
How DO the rich and famous always seem to stay so thin and healthy? With the exception of maybe Danny DeVito and Rodney Dangerfield, can you think of very many movie stars who are overweight or obese? Probably not. That's because they have found the secret to eating better quality foods that not only satisfy their tastebuds, but also their nutritional needs.
Dr. Fred Pescatore first introduced his healthy weight loss principles in his groundbreaking 2004 bestselling book called The Hamptons Diet with Hollywood hotties Sara Jessica Parker and Ren?e Zellweger among its most ardent followers.
But now, by popular demand, Dr. Pescatore is back with a hot new book full of over 200 mouthwatering and flavorfully unique recipes called The Hampton's Diet Cookbook. While you may not be rich and famous, he shows you how you can eat like one with Mediterranean-styled cooking assistance from renowned chef Jeff Harter.
Once you try many of these recipes, you'll forget you're actually on a diet! That is the beauty of finding a low-carb program like The Hamptons Diet -- IT TASTES SO GOOD YOU CAN'T BELIEVE IT CAN HELP YOU LOSE WEIGHT.
But it does. With countless numbers of people using this nutritional approach to lose weight in 2006, despite what the naysayers in the media and those pesky low-fat lovin' health "experts" say, the fact remains that this way of eating has worked and STILL continues to work to help people lose weight and keep it off for good. I lost over 180 pounds thanks to a healthy low-carb eating plan and you can too!
As a strong proponent of eating more organic whole foods as well as liberal amounts of macadamia nut oil, Dr. Pescatore wants the average, everyday person to look at food in an entirely different manner than they ever have before. Pay attention to the kind of carbohydrates that you are putting in your mouth and stick with the healthful slow-release ones as well as foods that are balanced according to the glycemic index and the glycemic load. The recipes in The Hampton's Diet Cookbook provide you with this balance.
Just in case you didn't get his original book, Dr. Pescatore provides an abridged version of The Hamptons Diet plan at the front of his new book to catch you up to speed, including explaining the various food pyramids that you will want to know about when you are on his diet. Trust me, throw out everything you thought you knew about diet and nutrition and keep your mind open to the greater possibilities that await you in this book.
There's even one chapter that explains what kind of kitchen appliances and tools you will need to start eating healthier. Hey, if you're gonna make the commitment to lose weight and keep it off, then what better way than to start anew than to literally clean house?! You'll also enjoy the convenient grocery shopping lists that Dr. Pescatore provides to keep you focused on what you need to do to get with the plan and make it happen for yourself.
The recipes in The Hampton's Diet Cookbook cover breakfast ("the most important meal of the day"), lunch (something light, nothing fancy), and dinner ("one of the most enjoyable and entertaining parts of the day"). Additionally, there are great side dishes and salads to combat boredom on the plan even if you can't make it look very good (Dr. Pescatore wrote that "the hardest thing for me is to get a salad to look pretty"). I can relate, but who cares when the taste is...mmmmmm!
For those of you who want to entertain guests and dazzle them with your low-carb cooking prowess, Dr. Pescatore presents a series of popular party recipes that will have them raving! Interestingly, you would think these recipes would need to be fancy-schmancy, but actually many of them are quite simple. The point is, Dr. Pescatore explains, to have fun with your life and stop worrying about food so much. It's time to eat better and be merry -- The Hamptons Diet way!
But what would a cookbook be without a few wonderfully tantalizing desserts?! However (and I LOVE this!), Dr. Pescatore makes it very clear up front what you won't see in his recipe book: "Sugar won't be used in any of these dessert recipes." EXCELLENT! That's just the way we like it when we are livin' la vida low-carb. A superb dissertation on what is acceptable as an alternative to sugar is included at the beginning of the dessert chapter to help you make the right choices about what you should use, including a list of the "healthy sweeteners" (Stevia, Xylitol), ones where the "jury is still out" (Splenda, maltitol), and finally the ones you really should "avoid" (hint: Nutrasweet didn't do so well).
At the back of the book, Dr. Pescatore includes in the appendix an amazing resource guide to help you find some of the ingredients that may be hard for you to find in your area. He earnestly wants to see you succeed at his plan and literally thought of everything for people who read The Hampton's Diet Cookbook.
Regardless of which low-carb plan you have been on, whether it's Atkins, South Beach, Protein Power, or The Zone, The Hampton's Diet Cookbookwill give you even more succulent and tasty recipes your are sure to love and enjoy with your family. Eating healthy never tasted so good! That's the miracle of low-carb living. THANKS, Dr. Pescatore for continuing to be a champion of this amazingly miraculous way of eating!

Taste of Home: Everyday Light Meals

My wife is picking out new recipes from this book every day, and I have to say that this is a surprisingly consistent book when it comes to "light" fare. Most "healthy" cookbooks either contain only one or two winners, or have such delicious fare like sprouts and lima bean brownies. In this book, some recipes have been better than others, but all recipes so far have been good, and best of all, I've lost 30 lbs in the last 2 1/2 months! Granted, I've been working out as well, but I can honestly say this book has definitely had an impact on my weight loss!

Flat Belly Diet Family Cookbook Review

Flat Belly Diet Family Cookbook
Average Reviews:

Absolutely LOVE The this cookbook. It is filled with new recipes that are very kid friendly. My kids have already attached post-it notes to half of the recipes in the book (to mark what they want me to make). We have had the cookbook only a few days and have already made four recipes. We loved them all and can't wait to make more this weekend. It will certainly make the FBD easier for me to follow!
If you a Flat Belly Dieter, you should be aware that only a few recipes give the FBD serving size as a measure (ie. 1 cup = a FBD serving). For most recipes, you are going to have to divide the dinner into serving sizes (usually 4), take out your serving and then feed your family.

The No-Salt, Lowest-Sodium Cookbook Review

The No-Salt, Lowest-Sodium Cookbook
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A great cookbook for anyone!!! Yes, I have high blood pressure & have been diagnosed as 'salt sensitive,' and my husband has had open heart surgery, so we have to be careful, but I have lost 50 pounds without giving up pizza, sticky buns, and chocolate brownies!!! This cookbook enabled me to change my lifestyle without having to redesign my cooking. The recipes in here are easy to make, taste great, and keep you in the mainstream of the food chain even though you are dealing with serious health issues. Don recommends buying a bread machine - who knew store- bought bread had so much sodium!! Anyway, I bought a bread machine , and recipes for the pitas, the breads, the pizza dough - all superb! So many of the heart healthy books do not understand that is not just the fat...many of us have to watch the salt as well. This cookbook guarantees that we do not have to give up the flavor and the fun of food.

The Eat-Clean Diet Cookbook: Great-Tasting Recipes That Keep You Lean Review

The Eat-Clean Diet Cookbook: Great-Tasting Recipes That Keep You Lean
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Having lost a ton of weight, and apparently good at keeping it off, Tosca Reno decided to write this book after her bestselling The Eat-Clean Diet: Fast Fat-Loss that lasts Forever!. I guess it was so popular that there was a demand for Eat Clean Recipes. After looking at the book, I can see why.
First off, if you're looking for any detailed explanations of the Eat Clean diet, you won't find it here- check out her other book instead, The Eat-Clean Diet: Fast Fat-Loss that lasts Forever!. But just to give you a very brief overview, it's a nutritional plan that maximizes your intake of protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants by incorporating "whole foods" from every group. Some of the Clean Eating Principles include things such as: eat 5-6 small meals a day, eat every 2-3 hrs., avoid saturated fats, and stick to proper portion sizes. As you can see, it's healthy and sensible.
Anyway, the book is just loaded with recipes. A little bit about the layout. Major recipe sections include breakfast, soup, grains, sauces, one-dish and easy meals, proteins, vegetables, pasta, sweets and breads, and festive occasions. Most notable, perhaps, is that each recipe tells you the nutritional breakdown (total calories, fat calories, protein, carbs, fiber, sugars, fat, and sodium). Also included is the approximate preparation AND cook time. Nice!
So needless to say, I was well-pleased with the book. It's practical and healthy. A must-have if you're an Eat Clean fan or if you're just looking for a few healthy recipes. Readers trying to make healthy lifestyle changes might also be interested in The Sixty-Second Motivator.

Cooking Thin with Chef Kathleen: 200 Easy Recipes for Healthy Weight Loss Review

Cooking Thin with Chef Kathleen: 200 Easy Recipes for Healthy Weight Loss
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This book is a must-have for Americans who want to loose weight while still enjoying food, one of this country's most misunderstood pleasures. The author is well-informed, intelligent and practical in her approach. It is worth pointing out that her overall philosophy towards weight loss mirrors certain European nations, where better quality of food promotes thin bodies. I had the wonderful opportunity to live in Switzerland for several months, where I lost several pounds. When I returned to the US, the weight just returned. Kathleen helped bring me back to the lesson I had forgotton. Like Kathleen, the Swiss never counted calories or obsessed over food; they just made better choices when eating while not sacraficing taste and even quantity (Kathleen reminded me how a large and interesting salad with a smaller portion of one's usual pasta dish works wonders). Kathleen's book mirrors the truth I learned while living abroad: If we eat better qauilty foods (no more fat-free things and quick-fix diet foods), we will have better bodies. Her book helps outline a true way of life. I agree with the PHD/MD guests she has on her show when they say: Diets make you fat, and a good lifestyle of eating is the answer. Kathleen has truly found it!

Betty Crocker's Diabetes Cookbook: Everyday Meals, Easy as 1-2-3 Review

Betty Crocker's Diabetes Cookbook: Everyday Meals, Easy as 1-2-3
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am completely baffled by this book and the reviews it has received! After only a few pages I was aghast and realized I had thrown my money away.
I am not a medical professional or scientist but all of my own personal research into diabetes and related blood disorders strongly recommend avoiding refined carbohydrates. This book is full of recipes using highly refined carbohydrates: white sugar and white flour.
I also found recipes containing an uncomfortably high percentage of calories from fat. I expected recipes emphasizing whole, low glycemic foods prepared in as close to their natural state as possible - foods that had as much of their beneficial properties (such as nutrients and fiber) intact. I was extremely disappointed by what this book had to offer and am sorry I bought it.

Main-Course Salads (Main-Course Series) Review

Main-Course Salads (Main-Course Series)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This salad book by Ray Overton lived up to my every expectation. I have Ray's Main-Course Soups and am thrilled to know this is now a series. Can't wait to get Main-Course Sandwiches.
The recipes in the salad book are so creative and different. Some of our favorites are the Fiery Thai Beef Salad, Pecan Crusted Goat Cheese Salad, and the Southwestern (Layered) Black Bean Salad. The dressings are easy and can be made ahead (they're even better when allowed to sit in the fridge overnight). Can't wait to try more!
I met Ray at a demo/signing in NYC last month. He is a delight. Why haven't we seen him on the TV Food Network? He'd give Emeril some sleepless nights worrying about this creative guy taking over his Live show. With the books he's written and his vast culinary knowledge, humor, style, and personality, it's time for a change!

Betty Crocker's Living with Cancer Cookbook: Easy Recipes and Tips through Treatment and Beyond Review

Betty Crocker's Living with Cancer Cookbook: Easy Recipes and Tips through Treatment and Beyond
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Having lived with cancer for 8 years and having had over one hundred treatments so far, I am thrilled to find a book that really talks to patients from patients who have lived through the same thing I am going through. This book shares real world recipes that are easy to eat and easy to make. In addition, the recipes have been eaten by patients who have the same problems I have had namely nausea, constipation, mouth sores, diarrhea and special diets such as neutropenia and low residue. The lists of recipes on pages 48 & 49 help me and family members chose food that I can eat AND that will benefit me for the side effects I am going through. This is incredibly encouraging!!! I especially appreciate the Q & A section from Dr. Ghosh and the diet plans for the special diets in the back of the book. Another great feature that I love are the special tips pages such as Snacks (p109), Humor and Healing (p149), Food during Treatments (p207), and Great Gifts (p223). I think this book would be the best gift to give to a cancer patient going through treatment. The best part of this book are the real quotes from real patients on nearly every recipe in the book. This book is a both a manual for Living with Cancer AND an excellent cookbook with tried and true recipes. Thanks Betty Crocker!!!

Zone Meals in Seconds : 150 Fast and Delicious Recipes for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Few books prompt me to want to TELL THE WORLD because it may make a big difference in the quality of life of anyone who reads it. This is the first time that I have tried the Zone diet and fish oil supplements so it was all news to me and makes sense. I don't usually buy recipe books but this is more of a guide to balanced eating using raw foods, canned/frozen food, and even restaurant visits. The authors seem to realize that I don't have the time or talent to deal with exotic food preparation. Rather than a long list of food to avoid, this book explains which foods are good, better, and best along with balanced quantities.
Don't underestimate the health effects of the right food if you are currently in pain or taking any medications this book could change your life! A high cholesterol report and watching Morgan Spurlock's movie, Super Size Me, prompted me to pursue some changes in my diet. In the month since entering the Zone I have discontinued Sudafed use (after years on it) and my husband is off of glucosamine and pain free. Plus, we are not hungry, have energy, and sleep better than before. This book ended the confusion I felt about what to eat. I found it very helpful.

The Sacred Kitchen: Higher-Consciousness Cooking for Health and Wholeness Review

The Sacred Kitchen: Higher-Consciousness Cooking for Health and Wholeness
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I opened the pages of this title expecting to read an extraordinary cookbook, but I found much more: a handbook for conscious living and for celebrating life in the food energies that we take in as nourishment for body and soul.
How many of us realize that the thoughts we entertain in our minds and hearts while we cook have a direct, tangible effect on the nourishing potential of the food we prepare for ourselves and our loved ones, family, or friends? If we think of kitchen work as drudgery and grumble and groan over the chores of meal preparation, how can we expect such a meal to taste well and be easily digested? If, on the other hand, we consciously channel positive, loving energy through our hearts and hands into the foods that we cook, we will create a meal that not only tastes wonderful but also heals and regenerates those who eat it.
The authors, Robin Robertson, a professional chef, cooking teacher, food writer, and author of five cookbooks, and Jon Robertson, an accomplished writer, editor, author, and researcher of sacred literature and spiritual philosophies, have put together a comprehensive manual for reclaiming the sacred in the seemingly mundane process of food preparation. Too often, valuable energy is wasted when cooking and meal times are regarded as time robbers which prevent us from accomplishing what we believe to be more important tasks. Correspondingly, we try to cut corners with nutritionally deficient fast foods and meals eaten "on the run."
The Robertsons suggest that by changing our attitude toward food preparation and by allowing the process of cooking to become a flowing meditation exercise, we can rediscover the art of creating meals that are truly wholesome and healing. They maintain that a positive attitude, expressed as loving energy, is the "secret ingredient" of the best meals.
"The Sacred Kitchen" offers many practical suggestions for cultivating such an attitude and for creating an environment which naturally supports the cook's efforts by allowing "Chi", the omnipresent universal energy, to flow freely through the kitchen and eating areas. This is the principle behind Feng Shui, the ancient oriental art of placing furniture, appliances, and objects in a way that maximizes energy flow and prevents blockages. Many kitchens have design flaws because their importance and functionality were not considered by architects who built the kitchen as an "afterthought" in the space left over after other rooms in the house. Using the art of Feng Shui, the authors present helpful ideas for how such problems can be overcome by strategically placing mirrors, plants, or wind chimes to realign the flow of "Chi."
Other suggestions in the book include exercises for finding centeredness within, creating a sacred ambiance through such means as special lighting or candles in the dining area, and for consecrating a meal gathering to a meaningful purpose by saying a blessing over the food and those who will be eating it. "The Sacred Kitchen" draws on ancient traditions and spiritual rituals from around the world for suggestions for special holiday meals and celebration dinners.
A selection of enticing recipes, such as Dharma Burgers, Gaia Vegetable Pot Pie, and Global Pizza, offer the cook many creative ways to explore not only the connection between lovingly prepared, wholesome meals and personal well-being, but also the undeniable relationship between our food choices and planetary environmental health.
A truly unique and enlightened book, "The Sacred Kitchen" is essential reading for anyone who yearns to recreate the comfort and warmth of hearth and home in a world ruled by fast food and the microwave oven.

Slim and Scrumptious: More Than 75 Delicious, Healthy Meals Your Family Will Love Review

Slim and Scrumptious: More Than 75 Delicious, Healthy Meals Your Family Will Love
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have mixed emotions about this cookbook because the three recipes I have cooked (Chicken Lettuce Wraps, Beef and Bell Pepper Stir Fry, and Double Chocolate Pancakes with Strawberry Sauce) were fantastic. The reason I only gave the book three stars is that several of the recipes are obviously flawed. On page 106, the Mediterranean Meatloaf calls for 1/4 pounds (sic) ground turkey and no other meat. I'm guessing that's not enough meat to make a meatloaf for 6 people and perhaps it was supposed to be 1 1/4 pounds. On page 178, the picture of the Summer Squash Tian clearly includes both yellow squash and zucchini but the recipe doesn't include zucchini.
I haven't studied the book enough to know if there are other errors and I will still try other recipes, it just seems like a lot of money for a book that needed more time with the editor.
UPDATE: Joy wrote to let me know that the error in the Mediterranean Meatloaf recipe will be corrected in future printings so I've updated my rating to five stars. And just so you know, I've tried three more recipes, the Hoisin-Glazed Salmon, Summer Squash Tian (I added zucchini), and Sesame Chicken Tenders and they were all very good. With recipes corrected, this is definitely a 5-Star cookbook!

Hats off to Doris Cross! She's produced yet another spectacular cookbook! The recipes in this book are absolutely delicious, easy to prepare, and don't require bizarre ingredients. The taste is sensational; you think you're eating high-fat dishes when you aren't! The dishes are simple enough for everyday fare, yet elegant enough for a dinner party. Of the many cookbooks I've purchased since being diagnosed with diabetes, the ones by Doris Cross are far and away my favorites!!

Glorious One-Pot Meals: A Revolutionary New Quick and Healthy Approach to Dutch-Oven Cooking Review

Glorious One-Pot Meals: A Revolutionary New Quick and Healthy Approach to Dutch-Oven Cooking

I purchased this cookbook when I was given a dutch oven for Christmas. I was excited about the gift, but wanted to learn more about how to use it. The recipes in this book have left me underwhelmed thus far (I've only had it about a month, but I've made two to three dinners from this book a week, so it's getting good use). Some are definitely yummy (Chicken Satay stands out as my favorite), but some just didn't seem to have as much flavor as I was hoping for. Regardless, this cookbook is a must-have for learning how to cook in a dutch oven. I've come up with my own recipes and ingredients, but cooked them as advised and explained in this book and everything comes out wonderful!!! I can't believe how quick and easy it is to get dinner on the table now!
Another note - most recipes call for baking in a 450 degree oven, but my dutch oven (Lodge Color Enameled Cast-Iron 6-Quart Dutch Oven, Island Spice) indicated that it shouldn't be used above 400 degrees. I kept the oven at 400 and kept a close eye to see if I would need to modify the time, but didn't - everything still cooked up perfectly and in the noted time.

The High-Protein Cookbook: More than 150 healthy and irresistibly good low-carb dishes that can be on the table in thirty minutes or less.

I am not a fan of very high-protein diets, but this book is great. The cover says the recipes are quick, easy, and delicious. They really are! They are inventive, use generally available ingredients, and draw from a range of cuisines. I am an attorney who commutes over 2 hours a day, so I am tired when I get home and I just want to eat. As long as I have the meat called for in the receipe thawed and ready to go, I am eating a great-tasting dinner in 30 minutes or less. Add a salad and a side vegetable and you are all set.
Sometimes the fat content is a little high, but you can generally work around that. Also, the dessert recipes rely on aspartame, which I don't consume now that Splenda is available in the U.S., but you can make substitutions. Very minor problems, in my book.
Highly recommended for anyone who eats meat and wants a quick, easy, and interesting dinner.

End food boredom and diet burnout with more than 400 sophisticated, low-carbohydrate dinners that are bursting with flavor--and on the table in under 30 minutes!Hundreds of thousands have embraced the low-carbohydrate lifestyle finding that a diet based on lean protein, fruits, and vegetables and less dependent on simple carbohydrates has helped them look and feel better. But a monotonous menu of steak and salad or expensive, additive-laden prepared foods has been the undoing of many a successful diet regimen. The solution? Linda West Eckhardt and Katherine West DeFoyd have devised more than 100 protein-rich, low-carbohydrate dinners that will satisfy even the most demanding diners. Drawing on their experiences as award-winning cookbook authors, Eckhardt and DeFoyd have developed a tempting range of high-protein meals that are quick enough to make on a weeknight but elegant enough to share with guests -- and so delicious they'll never know they've been shortchanged on carbohyd rates, fat, and calories. Each entree in The High-Protein Cookbook * Provides at least 30 grams of protein, yet is light on fat and calories.* Is styled for two people but can easily be doubled or tripled* Uses short lists of fresh, healthful ingredients* Is based on simple cooking techniques requiring no special equipment* Avoids "artificial" products and flavorings* Contains reasonable amounts of high-quality protein balanced by ample servings of vegetables and fruitsWith chapters devoted to side dishes and salads, sauces and condiments, and even sinfully satisfying desserts that won't break the carbohydrate bank, The High-Protein Cookbook is the perfect companion to many of today's most popular dietary regimens and an enticing argument for cutting back on excess carbohydrates.

The QuickFlip system really helps me in the kitchen. It makes cooking so simple. I like being able to make the different international versions of main dishes, soups, side dishes, even desserts and know I'll have a good-tasting, healthy meal without a lot of effort. I also like not having to learn a lot of different recipes in order to add variety to my meals. I feel creative and healthy and I'm spending a lot less time planning meals. It's great not having to dig through 10 different cookbooks - the Quickflip is all I need!
