Betty Crocker's Quick & Easy Cookbook Review

Betty Crocker's Quick and Easy Cookbook

This book has some really good, quick & easy recipes. I bought this book since I don't have a lot of time to do cooking when I get home from work & it's given me some really good meals. The meals are so easy to make, most only have about 6 or less ingredients. My mother saw my book, liked the recipes so I bought a copy for her. My husband has made several recipes as well. He was impressed that the prep & cook time actually took 30 minutes or less & recipes are so easy!
A lot of the new recipe books contain funky recipes, but I loved this one because I would actually eat any in this book. Among some tasty recipes are Chicken Marsala, Thai Chicken Wraps, Skillet Chicken Parmigiana, One pot potatoes & chicken, Sloppy Joe rotini, Parmesan-Dijon Chicken, Five-layer mexican dip, Fiesta taco salad, Stove top lasagna, Southwest cheese and pasta, stuffed french toast, among many many others.
The neat thing about this book is that in the beginning of each section, it gives you some quick 1-Step ideas (for example - Poultry, it gives one step seasoning ideas such as italian seasoning, mesquite, cajun seasoning, etc.) that don't require an actual recipe.
Although this has many common meal ideas, many have a little twist that most of us wouldn't think of. The recipes are really quick & easy & delicious!

this should be your first cookbook, or if you already have others, well, don't let the title fool you. It has great recipes, with pictures for each of them and detailed instructions. I have over 50 cookbooks and if I had to choose just one, well it would be this one.
Simple recipes, "the basics" including a a chapter where it teaches you how to make a traditional thanksgiving dinner. Let me tell you that I did it this november 28th and guess what? It turned out to be great! My family couldn't belive I've done everything by myself. And it wasn't such a big effort 'cause it teaches you how to organize every single thing.
I love this book!!

I Don't Know How to Cook Book: 300 Great Recipes You Can't Mess Up Review

I Don't Know How to Cook Book: 300 Great Recipes You Can't Mess Up
Average Reviews:

I bought this book at a public book show put on by Scholastic outside a cafe where I sometimes eat lunch. I'm not unfamiliar with the kitchen and cooking, although I'm by no means a gourmet. But I've long been embarrassed by the fact that I just plain didn't know how to make a lot of "basic" items that a lot of cooks learn from experience. There were also a lot of gaps in my knowledge: for example, I knew what separated eggs were but I didn't know how to do it without making a gawdawful mess and imperfectly separated parts.
Enter this book. It's got a lot of good basic stuff, the kind that doesn't require expensive ingredients or unusual cooking implements. It's more than enough for good meal planning and many of the recipes are useful for the fairly competent cook who just wants something quick and cheap, but still tasty. The format of the recipes is also very easy to follow: ingredients are listed in the order of appearance and there are notes that explain timing issues ("while you are waiting for this to happen, do that.") There are also useful sidebars about various cooking-related issues; including, to continue my example above, one about methods for separating eggs.
Those looking for more adventure in the kitchen are probably going to be sorely let down, and mentions of microwaves are few and far between. But for someone looking for the basics in order to facilitate good meals and meal planning with good time management, this is an excellent choice...even if the title is a little bit embarrassing.

My cooking experience includes making boxed macaroni and cheese and toast. I received this book as a gift last year but just recently put it to use. Over the last month, I have worn it out! I am a vegetarian but also wanted to cook for friends who are meat-eaters. The book includes many receipes for everyone. The receipes are easy to understand and fun to read. Kevin and Nancy Mills have a fabulous sense of humor. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to start cooking but is intimidated and doesn't know where to begin.

The dynamic mother-son team who wrote Help! My Apartment Has a Kitchen Cookbook now offers humorous advice and easy recipes for gen-Xers and other novice cooks who want to invite friends for dinner. When we last met Kevin Mills in the runaway, surprise bestseller Help! My Apartment Has a Kitchen Cookbook, he was a recent college graduate who took a cooking-by-phone class from his mom in order to survive in the kitchen, eventually winning over his vegetarian girlfriend with his culinary skills. Now he's married to her, she's a doctor, and he still does all the cooking in their tiny kitchen. And now they entertain. With the same combination of witty writing and clever illustrations that earned the authors' first book accolades in the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Boston Globe, and Seventeen, Help! My Apartment Has a Dining Room dispenses straight advice and 150 easy recipes from a kitchen veteran, Mom, road-tested and written by her twentysomething son, who has taken out "all the fancy cookbook talk." With "Mom Tips" and "Mom Warnings," this book gives novices the benefit of Mom's experience without having her in the kitchen.

A Man, a Can, a Microwave: 50 Tasty Meals You Can Nuke in No Time (Man, a Can... Series) Review

A Man, a Can, a Microwave: 50 Tasty Meals You Can Nuke in No Time (Man, a Can... Series)

I bought this book for over $16 at Borders when it caught my eye. Look what you save buying it here! I don't regret it, though, the book is THAT good. Each recipe shows the ingredients in photographs, laid out in series:
photo of canned product, such as tomato)
+ this (photo of another canned product)
+ this (photo of meat or veggie)
= (photo of the finished meal)
Ingenious. No more wondering, am I buying the right kind of canned tomatoes for this recipe?
The first thing I made was Paella. It was done in under 1/2 hour and the leftovers tasted (incredibly) even better the second day.
I'm a working mom, cooking for my husband (DH) & 2 pre-teenagers who are into all sorts of activities. Although I love to cook gourmet meals, my family could be starving before such fare is ready. These are fast, tasty, and have child-and-husband-friendly-ingredients. I've saved out a portion and microwaved it fast for DH when he has had a late work night and usually I'm too cooked out to do that. And the cleanup is next-to-nothing, getting me out of the kitchen and not having to face a disaster of a kitchen when we get back from evening activities.
We had the turkey with stuffing last night... the kids actually bragged to their friends about that dinner-- and it was so easy. As if all this weren't enough, I think I'm saving $ too, because I'm not resorting to fast food because I'm too tired to think about what to make. It's that easy to have the ingredients on hand for these meals.

First came A Man, a Can, a Plan: 50 Great Guy Meals Even You Can Make. The Sunday Star-Ledger cheered it as a "foolproof, not to mention spill-proof guide to manly success in the kitchen." And the Detroit News exclaimed, "Dude, this cookbook is for you."Next came A Man, a Can, a Grill: 50 No-Sweat Meals You Can Fire Up Fast. Cookbook author Andrew Schloss, who wrote Cooking with Three Ingredients and Dinner's Ready, called the recipes "easy, flavorful...streamlined and smart. Real food-so good that no one will ever guess your secret is in the can."Now there's A Man, a Can, a Microwave-and all those "dudes" who helped put the "Grill" book on the New York Times how-to bestseller list will be pleased to know that David Joachim and the editors of Men's Health haven't lost a beat. The 50 guy-friendly, nuke-able meals using packaged ingredients are fun to make and great to eat-and include such tasty dishes as "Italian One-Dish Fish," "Teriyaki Beef with Broccoli," and "Painless Paella." With step-by-step recipes and full-color photos, A Man, a Can, a Microwave, like the previous books in the series, is a perfect gift for anyone learning to cope in the kitchen.
