These recipes really aren't all that innovative, as far as kids recipes go (you already know how to cook hot dogs and grilled cheese sandwiches, right?), and the Rachael Ray 365 book has lots more information about altering recipes to suit your needs and other really helpful hints.

Hardcover, with a binding that lies flat on the counter, this book offers colorful graphics and pictures of the majority of the recipes presented. It is arranged in the following categories: Getting Ready, Breakfast: Rise & Shine, Lunch Specials, After-School Snacks, Soup's On, Breads we Love, Dinner's Ready, Side Dishes & Salads, Can I have Dessert, and Home for the Holidays.
Some of my family's favorite dishes include: Banana Split Waffles, PB & J Surprise Muffins, Strawberry Butter, Hummus, Falafel Flying Saucers, Nuke-able Nachos, Sneak-It-to-Em Broccoli Soup, Potato Chip Chicken Fingers, Baked Sweet Potatoes with Orange Sauce, Rock Candy, Leaning Tower of Oreos, Blueberry Fool, and Red, White, & Blueberry Freeze Pops. Also nicely included are some recipes for Play Doughs, with ideas on how to even make your own scented dough!
This was an excellent addition to my cookbook collection and my family has fun selecting and trying new recipes out of this extensive cookbook. If you want to teach your kids to cook, or want to find recipes sure to please even the finicky eater, then you should try this cookbook. Enjoy!

(More customer reviews)This is a wonderful cookbook! My husband just bought this for me and I can't wait to make them all. In addition to recipes, many pages have an area called "Did You Know" (which gives info on Italian cooking or history of the dish), "Helping Hands" (how your kids can help in the cooking process) and a Kitchen Tip.
The recipes are very straight forward and the photographs are beautiful (I find it helpful to see what the dish is supposed to look like). The Nonna's Secrets (which means Grandma's secrets in Italian) chapter gives lots of useful information such as how to get more juice out of an orange (put them in warm water before squeezing) or how to ripen an avocado quickly (store the avocado in a paper bag with an apple).
Finally you get tear-out lists to take to the store so you can plan meals for the entire week. This cookbook/handbook would make a great gift for anyone who enjoys cooking.I highly recommend it!

Honest Pretzels: And 64 Other Amazing Recipes for Kids Review

(More customer reviews)It was pretty frustrating looking for a kids' cookbook for my nephew. After looking at a few, I had seen about eight recipes for peanut butter on celery, and not a lot else.
Then I found this book. I agree with its premise, that children are not all idiots. This is the only book I found treats the young reader with respect. It's about real food, the kind that has a place at the supper table.
My nephew knew the difference, too. We made a few of the recipes, and had to scold his mother for eating too many of the cupcakes.
Most telling, his grandparents visited the week after I gave him the book. He insisted on making breakfast for them - pancakes from this book - by himself. They were impressed, and so was I when I heard about it. Not bad for age 7.

Fairy Tale Feasts: A Literary Cookbook for Young Readers And Eaters Review

(More customer reviews)I love to browse through different cookbooks. I have quite a collection, and usually go to the library to find new recipes to try before I decide to purchase the entire book. I normally look for 3 things in a cookbook, besides delicious recipes that will work for my family. This includes:
1) Pictures of more than ? of the recipes (Color pictures are the best)
2) A spiral binding, or at least on that easily lays flat
3) New & innovative recipes that have ingredients I can easily find at a grocery store
For this book, I was intrigued by the fact that each fairy tale in the book was accompanied by at least one recipe that goes along with it. For example, Little Red Riding Hood is accompanied by recipes for Deviled Eggs, Granny's Potato Salad, and Chicken Salad Pockets (all of the items that may have been included in Riding Hood's basket). The book offers great illustrations to go along with each story...this is a beautiful book! However, there are no actual photographs of the finished recipes, and was not in a binding that laid flat. Even though I normally wouldn't rate a cookbook as a 5 star without these items, the premise of the book was fun and fresh, and the book itself was lovely.
I loved the concept of this book, and highly recommend it as a gift for children that like stories and cooking.
Some of our favorites include: Chicken Salad Pockets, Sweet-Smelling Cinnamon Bread, Jack's Magic Party Beans, and Snow White's Baked Apples. Enjoy!
