I thought the cover looked very attractive and interesting, and I had read a review about this author.
She is a Southern Kentucky woman who married a Jersey Italian man. They have been happily eating together for 35 years is how she puts it.
After their visits to Italy, she had learned many Italian dishes first hand and experimented with them in her tiny kitchen, as she describes it.
There is even a lovely poem which she has about her tiny kitchen. Very lovely!
Each recipe is preceded by a beautiful color photograph of the prepared dish. What a great thing for a cookbook to have.
The recipes are very well written and the directions are easy to follow, best of all the ingredients are readily available from any grocery store.
I have tried many of the 40 recipes which are in this book.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves either of these American Southern or Italian foods.
A perfect gift for newlyweds and anyone interested in cooking up full bodied wholesome meals!

A Southern Kentucky girl married a Jersey Italian guy and they have been happily eating together for 35 years.Within this cookbook, I have compiled forty of our best and most favorite Southern and Italian recipes. All of my recipes are preceded by a full color photograph of the prepared dish. Fortunately for my husband, after photographing each meal, it was served for dinner that evening. As he told me upon completion of the editing and ultimately the publishing, in his own words, it was "the best book I have ever eaten".

Hotel Del Coronado Cookbook, The Review

I like this cookbook for the historical element it portrays. Unlike ordinary cookbooks which simply apply ingredients to an equation, this cookbook allows you to learn several aspects of the Hotel del Coronado's history. From the early years to the most recent recipe, you get a glimpse of the lifestyles and current affairs of each era. Not only entertaining, but recipes that can still be used today in charming to elegant parties. Author Beverly Bass's sophistication spans throughout this book in a way that only she can. I often use this book when preparing traditional, yet fine dined dinner parties.

"Bound to seize nostalgists." -Publishers WeeklyThe Hotel del Coronado ranks among world-class resorts such as the Breakers, the Greenbriar, and the Four Seasons. Over three hundred thousand registered guests come to relax and dine at "the Del" each year, and nearly a quarter of a million others come just to sample the epicurean treats in any of the various restaurants on its grounds. A national landmark on the shoreline of southern California, this luxury hotel plays host to foreign leaders, esteemed writers, actors, and travelers from around the world, and of course, it serves the most fabulous menus of any North American resort. With The Hotel del Coronado Cookbook, visitors, passersby, and even would-be Rockefellers can now take home more than just memories. This catalog of classic cuisine lists complete meals as served in the ballrooms and dining rooms of the Del. Included among the menus are their presidential banquets, their world-famous Sunday brunch, wedding-reception menus, holiday specials, choice dishes of celebrities, and the centennial menu from the hotel's million-dollar birthday bash. Each entrée, appetizer, and dessert recipe is spelled out in easy-to-follow instructions, allowing less-experienced cooks to successfully reproduce the flavors of the Hotel del Coronado. Included in this cookbook is a tour of the kitchens and an array of stories and legends that have developed over more than a century of serving guests.ABOUT THE AUTHORBeverly Bass was the food-and-beverage director for the resort for twelve years. Intrigued by the history of the Grand Old Lady by the Sea, she wrote The Hotel del Coronado Cookbook with the goal of preserving both the dining delights from the hotel's kitchens and the unique characters and celebrations that have graced the dining rooms, beaches, and ballrooms of the Hotel del Coronado.
